(A) Product Overview & Introduction
Polyurethane (PU/PIR) Cold Storage Panels are high-efficiency, prefabricated insulated sandwich panels specifically engineered for the construction of temperature-controlled environments such as cold storage warehouses, food processing facilities, pharmaceutical cleanrooms, and commercial walk-in freezers. A standard panel consists of a core of rigid polyurethane foam (PUR) or the more advanced polyisocyanurate foam (PIR), which boasts one of the lowest thermal conductivity values among insulation materials, laminated between two metal facings—typically pre-coated galvanized steel, stainless steel, or aluminum. The panels are manufactured in a continuous foaming line under controlled conditions, where the liquid foam components are injected and expand to form a seamless, homogeneous core that bonds permanently to the facings, creating a structural element with exceptional thermal integrity and mechanical strength. At Shandong Ulan Glass, while our core expertise lies in glass, our integrated building materials division supplies top-tier PIR cold storage panels that are essential for maintaining precise temperature ranges (from +15°C to -30°C and below), minimizing energy consumption, and ensuring hygiene compliance in critical logistics and food supply chains worldwide.
(B) Core Product Features & Advantages
  1. Exceptional Thermal Insulation (Low Lambda Value): The closed-cell structure of our PIR foam core provides an extremely low thermal conductivity (λ-value) as low as 0.021 – 0.023 W/(m·K), which is superior to most other insulation materials like EPS or rock wool. This directly translates to thinner wall constructions for the same insulation performance or significantly lower energy costs for refrigeration systems.

  2. Structural Integrity with Lightweight: Despite their lightweight nature, the sandwich construction gives the panels high compressive strength and excellent load-bearing capacity. They can be used for walls, roofs, and ceilings, simplifying construction and reducing the need for additional supporting frameworks.

  3. Hygienic & Easy to Clean: The panels feature a seamless, joint-less surface (using tongue-and-groove or cam-lock connections) and are faced with non-porous, FDA-compliant steel sheets. This design prevents moisture ingress, inhibits bacterial growth, and allows for easy cleaning with high-pressure water or steam, which is mandatory in food and pharmaceutical environments.

  4. Fire Safety Performance: Our PIR core panels are available with fire-retardant additives, achieving up to Class B1 / Class 0 / Euroclass B-s1,d0 fire ratings, significantly improving building safety compared to standard combustible insulation.

  5. Fast & Modular Installation: The panels are prefabricated to precise dimensions with integrated jointing systems. This allows for rapid, dry-assembly on-site, dramatically reducing construction time, labor costs, and project delays, which is crucial for fast-track logistics projects.

(D) Detailed Applications & Industries Served
  • Food & Beverage Industry: Construction of blast freezers (-30°C to -40°C), cold stores (0°C to +4°C), chill rooms (+2°C to +8°C), and processing halls. Hygienic stainless steel facings are common.

  • Pharmaceutical & Biomedical: For stability chambers, vaccine storage rooms (2-8°C), and cleanrooms requiring precise temperature and humidity control. Panels with smooth, coved corners to prevent dust accumulation.

  • Logistics & Distribution Centers: Large-scale refrigerated warehouses and distribution hubs for perishable goods. Focus on fast construction, durability, and energy efficiency.

  • Floral & Agricultural: Climate-controlled storage for flowers, fruits, and vegetables to extend shelf life.

  • Retail: Walk-in coolers and freezers for supermarkets, restaurants, and hotels.

(E) Manufacturing Process & Quality Control
Our cold storage panels are produced on a state-of-the-art continuous foaming line. The process starts with the decoiling and profiling of the metal facings. The bottom facing moves into the foaming chamber, where precisely metered polyol and isocyanate are mixed and deposited. As the mixture expands, it bonds to both the bottom facing and the top facing, which is simultaneously pressed down. The continuous sandwich is then cured, precisely cut to length, and the joint profiles are formed. We implement rigorous quality control at every stage: raw material inspection, foam density checks, adhesion peel tests, and dimensional accuracy verification. Each batch of foam is tested for thermal conductivity and fire performance.
(F) Packaging, Shipping & Installation Support
Panels are stacked on wooden pallets, separated by protective layers, and tightly wrapped in weatherproof plastic film. They are shipped in standard 40HQ containers or flat-rack containers for oversized panels. We provide detailed installation manuals, panel layout drawings, and a complete list of compatible accessories (panel screws, sealants, corner profiles, doors, etc.). Our technical team is available to provide remote support or, for large projects, on-site supervision to ensure correct installation and optimal performance of the cold room.
